Sounds like you got some kind of Linux distro  that's not working.

my other A31 thinkpad has window 2000 in a partition on the sam HD, do I expect the same with the one I just purchased? or the seller should have sent a separate windowsXP cd?
I also have a linux desktop but I got this thinkpad for my kids and they want to use widnows "for now".

Do you have a COA for XP?

Send me your hard drive, and list the options, CDRW/ DVD, etc and I'll restore your drive.

I don't need your COA.

Or you can still buy XP recovery disks.

Yes, you should see a prompt to press the blue Access IBM button when starting the unit.

Without knowing what the seller promised to send with the unit in their eBay offering it's impossible to answer that question.

The A31 recovery CDs are still available from Lenovo or you could ask someone here to make you copies.

Please update your profile with your location. For all we know you could live around the corner from another Forum member who could hand you a set of recovery CDs.
