Weird problem R40e and removable drives not appearing

#1 Post by Pookster » Thu May 10, 2007 12:11 pm

Hi again everyone,

I now have a wonderful new USB problem, I have got my nice old R40e, which I love to bits but the USB drive is no longer detecting mass storage devices e.g. pen drives or my car reader.

When I go into disk managment the drive appears and I can explore it from there, however, in my computer it is not appearing.

I have checked the services and the removable storage drive service is running so I have no idea why it's not appearing in My comptuer. I have heard that having mapped drives can cause the problems and I have 6 drives mapped, I have now removed all my mapped drives but still am getting nothing it's really odd and I've looked around the forums for an answer and come up with nothing. I was wondering if anyone here had experienced the same problems.

Kind regards,

Pookster :D

Can you change the drive letter in disk management by right clicking on the drive and choosing the option?

I can yes, it will assign it a drive letter but it still does not appear in my computer, I can also explore the drive from disk managment but it's really annoying.

Very strange :? have you applied a drive letter that has never neen used? e.g. z or q? Whenever I've seen similar situations changing the drive letter was enough.

Anyone else :?:

Hi again andy,

Yes I have tried that but it just doesn't work when I explore the drive from the disk management the drive does not support long file name support either, I just dont know what to do. I just can't seem to figure out what's changed.

Well this is really weird now. I have removed all my mapped drives, and assigned the drive the letter :P I can access the drive though a CMD box and is shows the full drive structure. However, it's still not appearing in windows explorer, this is really weird. I think it has to be somthing to do with windows, what I dont know. I've tried re-installing drivers, everything, it just refuses to appear.
