Z61m - How the TrackPoint is supposed to work?

#1 Post by z/svc » Sun May 20, 2007 5:35 pm

Hello all!

Firstly, please let me say "Hello ThinkPad World!" to all of you, as this is my 1st post on this forum and just got my 1st ThinkPad. Hello :)

On Dell laptops I saw that you can do a 'click' if you hit the trackpoint a little bit. On my Z61m I cannot do it, I need to use one of three special keys.

The question is: is something wrong with my trackpoint or ThinkPad's trackpoints work like this?

Thanks for help!

P.S. I am really impressed by this community. I went through many threads on this forum and I've found a lot of very useful information. By your posts you really add a great value to the ThinkPad brand. Thanks for this.

It's in dutch at my system but free translated:
start / config center / mouse / UltraNav (tab) / Trackpoint: config (button) / "push" (checkbox) (and config next to it optionally)

Ok here it is in English:

Control Panel > Mouse > UltraNav tab > TrackPoint field:
Tick "Enable TrackPoint" and click the Settings button
Tick the "Enable Press-to-Select" > click the Settings button
You can customize the settings to your preferences here then click OK when done.

Another tip : you can choose which finger that fit best for you to move the trackpoint.

I found myself using middle finger is more comfortable and less strain than if i use index finger.

Mouse track

I actually prefer my Track ball rather than the "scratch Pad" and I also use my middle finger to move the mouse and my thumb to click the buttons .. that seems to work the best for me.
