R40 Hard drive upgrade to Seagate 160GB

#1 Post by skript » Thu May 24, 2007 5:32 pm

hello,

I want to upgrade the hard drive of my R40 to the Seagate ST9160821A 160GB drive. I have some questions concerning this upgrade:

- the current BIOS of my R40 is 'as shipped', I haven't done any upgrades. Will I need to upgrade the BIOS in order to have this drive recognized by the BIOS/OS (have the support for 48-bit LBA, 137GB limit) ? Or is the 48-bit LBA ON by default ?

- what happens when I will try to have my system restored using Recovery CDs created from the HPA from the original 40GB drive ? Will the system be successfully restored to the 160GB drive, even though the size of the drive is different and the fact that this drive is actually a 3rd party drive ?

thanks for your advice :)

Regarding your first question, it is always a good idea to upgrade your bios first.

Not sure how old your R40 is, but I had no problem installing the same hard disk in my A31p and using the full capacity.

Did it work out?

I'm curious whether you went ahead with the hard drive upgrade and, if so, how it worked out.
