100% cpu usage!
100% cpu usage!
Hi,
in the past two days I constantly noticed very unusual activity of my ThinkPad cpu. With Kaspersky Antivirus scan, IE and Process Explorer running, cpu usage increased to 100 % and stayed at this level until I stopped those applications. At this time I even wasn´t able to start other applications without having a great delay. As such high cpu activity was very unusual (even under Matlab and several other applications I have always had relatavely low average level of cpu usage), I scanned for viruses, spyware etc. but nothing of them came out. Two days ago I installed DivX and Ad-Aware, so I was asking myself if this could be due to some software conflict between Kaspersky and Ad-Aware.
Any help will be highly appreciated!
Marin
P.S. I don´t even have a great amount of processes running since I reduced them to 55 (for some other reasons) without any further problems.
EDIT: I´ve jsut read that incomplete avi-files can be a reason that task manager attributes high cpu usage to IE-explorer. I checked out the cpu usage of IE and in fact, this is the case. I have also downloaded Quicktime to play some avi-files I got in the past days. However, this is only a possible explanation (besides, they are all complete).

Hi,
I made another post in the general questions for things have changed a bit since. I don´t think this is the right placa for this topic as it hasn´t much to do with the Z series themselves.
M.
P.S.: Thanks for your reply, jdhusrt. Unfortunately, it didn´t help much. I uninstalled Kaspersky and DivX and removed all avi-files but nothing changed. Besides, I have never had probelms with Kaspersky, in fact, it´s pretty reliable antivirus software (just personal opinion).
