Z60m is my battery dead? update

#1 Post by Jnetty99 » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:30 pm

Just recently my Thinkpad Z60m has been flashing orange on the battery LED like its not charged. I could still use it with out the A/C adapter and I would get about 45 minutes of usage or more. But that orange light still kept blinking.

I open the Power Manager window and went to Battery Information and it says good condition. I decided then to go into Battery Maintenance and run the Battery gauge reset and ran that. It started doing something but then stopped and now my battery level is always at 0% and once i pull the A/C plug the computer shuts down.

Is the battery dead? any advice would be appreciated.
The laptop is almost 2 years old.

Update:
Just installed the latest Power Manager software from IBM. Now its telling me that the battery has failed and needs to be replaced. So i guess that confirms it.

That happened to me too and it was out of the blue. I went to turn on my computer and the battery LED was flashing. At first, I thought I simply forgot to turn it off and the battery was drained, but then I plugged it in over night and the same result. I called Lenovo and they sent me a new battery.

The battery is dead perhaps.

A battery comes with 1 year warranty so lenovo won't send a replacement to the OP as his battery is most likely out of it.

I tend to think it is the charging circuitry on the motherboard.

No its a Sanyo battery so no recall and its out of warranty i would assume.

Anyone know a good website for buying a battery replacement. eBay had 3 available at $49.

To be certain what Gomjabbar said you need another battery to test this thing out.

I'll try to get a new battery from eBay. Hopefully that works as I don't want to buy a new laptop yet.

Take a look at this :!:
Lenovo wrote:* If your battery has failed, use the Battery Verification Tool to determine if you are eligible for a replacement. If you are eligible, you will automatically be directed to the site where you can request a replacement.
* Lenovo is offering replacements only for batteries that have failed due to this problem. Lenovo will replace these failed batteries for up to 6 months past the expiration date of the battery warranty.
ThinkPad battery will not charge or discharge and gives an "Irreparable Damage" error message

You think i should go into the battery recall menu? i tried just regular tech support and they told that they could not help. To call the number associated with the paperwork mailed to me.

There was only one number printed on the DHL Label for Lenovo, its a 919 area code number and no one is picking up.

Update:
I called the 919 number and they refered me back to someone at Lenovo. They are going to look up my record and send me another battery.

I think the worse has come up.
I just got the new 9 cell battery that i bought through ebay and the laptop is doing and saying the same error message.

I guess the internal charging system has failed?
I'm suppose to get the direct Lenovo replacement tomorrow. If that does it also it will completely prove that issue.

10 months after getting my Z61M my computer had the same error message and I got a replacement. My first A31 battery lasted almost three years, the battery of second A31 that I got a year later lasted 2 years. Hope this is not a trend.

My daughter works for a firm where they are into telemetrics. They have customers running 10 year old laptops still working perfectly with the original battery. Getting a very uneasy feeling here ....

2 years and 3 years actually sounds good to me. Mine finally got fix, but was tired of all the little things happening to the laptop. I sold it.
