Z61t battery dead - Will I be able to update BIOS w/o it??

#1 Post by ojpd » Tue Jul 03, 2007 4:13 pm

Hi guys,

This is my first post here.. Excellent community btw..

I'm running my thinkpad on AC Power now since Lenovo Philippines doesn't really care that much about their customers and I have been having a really hard time looking for a replacement.

I would like to ask if anybody here has already succeeded in updating their Z series thinkpads BIOS running only with AC Power?? Is it possible to update my Z61t's bios even if I don't attach it's battery??

Thanks in advance for the replies...

If I remember correctly, I once tried it and it did not let me update the BIOS without a charged (at a good level) battery.

But even if you could get it going somehow, I'll strongly advise against it. As in case of power loss, you'll only be left with a burned motherboard.

@ryengineer

Thanks for the reply.. I'd probably just buy a new battery before thinking of flashing it..

On the other hand I could plug in my AC to a UPS... Hmm... Nah..
