How loose are your R series' hinges?

#1 Post by mitts2010 » Fri Jul 06, 2007 4:57 pm

I bought a used Thinkpad R40 from Ernst & Young, and the LCD opens and closes nicely, and the hinges can hold up the weight of the LCD fine. But the screen flexes about 3/4 of a inch, is that normal, or is their something wrong?

I have two R50p's and both displays have a play of about 8 mm.

My R52's are very tight, no play and still can't open the thing without holding down the base with one hand, it's a 14". :)

My R40 developed loose hinges also. After opening it up the right hand hinge screws had loosened. A few turns with the screw driver and good as new

My 15" R51 hinges are perfectly solid after three years.

Mine are absolutely fine. At a stretch, you could say there's 5mm of play but you'd have to be quite a harsh judge to admit that.

My R40 hinges are very solid. It takes a bit of effort to open the laptop.
