R50e device manager issue

#1 Post by andyeye » Sun Jul 15, 2007 4:31 am

I was recently given an IBM thinkpad r50e, it's an 1834 model.
I was having all sorts of problems with getting the thing to load in the end I worked out the hard drive was the problem. So I changed the hard drive (toshiba 60gb) and installed windows xp.

The machine has no troubles apart from the fact that in the device manager there are still 6 things I can't get drivers for, it's proving difficult because I don't know exactly what these items are. I have been to the lenovo website and have downloade all their drivers for this machine but it still won't let me sort this problem out.

The offending items in the device manager are these

other devices -
base system device
base system device
network controller
pci modem
sm bus controller
unknown device

Just for your info the follwing items are listed as working fine:

batteries
computer
disc drives
display adapters
dvd/cd-rom drives
ide ata/atapi drives
keyboards
mice and other pointig devices
monitors
network adapters (intel(R0 PRO/100 VE Network connection)
pcmcia adapters
ports (com & lpt)
processors
sound, video and game controllers
system devices
universal serial bus controllers.
Thinkpad....too much thinking...my brain hurts!

Install Thinkvantage System Update, it would gather all available drivers for your system at one place.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Very right !!!

Install Windows XP service pack 2 and that unknown device icon will not be there any longer.

I have R50e-1834-EQ1 laptop. I also had this problem when i installed Windows XP with service pack 1 2 years ago after I bought laptop. After applying SP2, that icon gone.

That device is probablly a system bus. Just apply SP2 . 8)
