SafeGuard PrivateDisk problem

#1 Post by jbrasher » Fri Jul 20, 2007 6:23 pm

I've been using my Z61m for more than a year now.
I setup a secure volume R: in the beginning and it's work well.

Today I got the following screens from CSS (6.01.0037.00) and responded 'next' and 'no'.

There is no R: drive anymore so I've lost my data (I've got a backup)
but am wondering what happened and what will happen if I set a secure drive up again.

Any insight to this would be appreciated.
John

Do you still have the pdisk.vol file in My Docments (or wherever you created it intitially)? If so you should be able to run PrivateDisk and mount it with the passphrase. You can also tell Private Disk to mount it automatically.

As to what happened, it looks something caused it to run the setup wizard, which then caused it to not be fully set up when you canceled out of it. You did the right thng by canceling though.

Thanks Ed,

I found the .vol file; now I just have to figure out what the password is.

A couple of weeks ago I setup some other Win users for CVSNT and right away I was asked for the "Enter Disk Password - Secure Disk".
I canceled out of it and did a search and found others had the issue and it seemed to be an annoyance. The R: secure drive I had originally setup still worked and the password was automatically entered. I assume it was system generated at the time I set it up becuase I don't have any idea what it might be.

I normally use PasswordCorral and religiously keep track of these things. :D

Since I have a backup and can use TrueCypt I think I'll go that way.

I just liked the idea that the TPM chip was involved with securing this information but I don't see anyway to trust it anymore.

Thanks again,

John
