Replacing the CPU on a Thinkpad A21m

#1 Post by PhilipGanchev » Sun Jul 22, 2007 7:13 pm

Hi, I want to replace the CPU on my A21m. The old CPU is a 650MHz Pentium III Coppermine with 256KB of cache. The new one is a 1GHz Coppermine. Do I have to do anything special, like put thermal paste on the new CPU when I close it? If so, where do I get thermal paste? Any other advice?

Yes you need to clean off the old thermal paste from the heatsink (alcohol) and reapply. Suggest you use Arctic Silver 5. You can get it at Radio Shack or Ebay.

Thanks! How much do you think I need, and do I need the high-density variant or not?
