R50p LCD screen issues

#1 Post by netvista » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:54 pm

When i bought my R50p (second hand) i noticed that the original UXGA / SXGA screen was replaced with an ordinary XGA LCD screen. To enjoy the full screen resolution this notebook is capable of, i bought a new UXGA screen from ebay.

The type is IDTECH N150U3-L06. According to several websites, this is the original screen. However, when i connect it, only the backlight illuminates, but no image is displayed......

When i connect the old crappy XGA screen, it is working fine again.

What is happening here..? I can't image that the screen is broken as it is brand new.

I know that there are 2 types of R50p's. One that supports SXGA and 1 that supports UXGA. I choose the UXGA because my R50p has a 128 Mb dedicated ATI card, so i figured it should be able to support the UXGA screen resolution.

Could the wrong screen result in this behaviour?

Can the cable make any difference?

Any tips would be highly appreciated.

LCD cable assembly 15-in UXGA = 91P6836
LCD cable assembly 15-in XGA = 91P6826
Inverter card, XGA = 91P7335
Inverter card, SXGA+ and UXGA = 91P7336

I see your problem :) You need to find part number 91P7336 inverter card. What part number inverter is installed currently?

Thanks for your reply.

Currently the numbers are:

LCD cable = 91P6826

Inverter card = p/n 27K9952 FRU 27K9951 EC J76566... :?

So i need another LCD cable. But what about the inverter? It doesn't match any of the numbers you described.

That part is listed at the below link as an XGA/SXGA+ inverter card for a R50e, R51e, or R52. IMHO you need both an inverter card and a new LCD cable.

 These things are both quite expensive... even on ebay.

Actually i am quite surprised that the inverter and cable are both XGA. I thought that the R50p was only produced with SXGA & UXGA screens....?

Evidently your previous owner replaced all (3) components when the LCD was replaced. No surprise there ... an entire assembly may come with all three as a package too.

Yes, but why would someone want to exchange UXGA fo XGA..? Even if the screen was broken, it would probably be cheaper to buy a replacement UXGA screen then a XGA screen + cable + inverter... :?

Anyway, it;s not important now. What is important is to get these parts to make it UXGA again.

There are hundreds of possible scenarios. It could have been a dealer with the part in stock. He/she could have had an R5X laying around dead...on and on ...

$29 inverter board - before shipping

$33.42 cable - before shipping.

Both ship internationally. You could also ask Spare Parts Warehouse if they have or can get the inverter so that you can combine shipping.

I'm a bit in doubt about the inverter that spareparts warehouse offers.

They say that the inverter with p/n 91P7336 is replaced with p/n 39T0368... and the R50p is not in the compatibility list....In fact, IBM refers to the 39T0368 as being a XGA/SXGA inverter. Not UXGA.

What do you think..? Is this the correct one..?

If you google "91P7336 replacement 39T0368" , SparePartsWarehouse is the only hit you get :). I am doubting their word as fact. Try for the one on EBay.

I thought so too. Besides that, here is the response i got from spare parts warehouse.

Unfortunately at this time we are unable to ship internationally or accept an internationally billed credit card.

So much for spare parts warehouse... :?

So i need to find an alternative for the LCD cable as well.

Crap, I wish I had seen this thread earlier! I am selling a UXGA Flexview LCD from my R50p for an insanely low price. It would have helped both you and me. But anyway, congrats on fixing your problem.
