Opinions on the A2Xp series of laptops?
Thinking about buying one, any reason for me not to? I heard there is a problem with speedstep on the A22p laptops or something? Or the issue lies with PIII-M at 1GHZ or faster and OR simply lies with Tualatin Based PIII-M don't do speedstep very well.

No problem, there was one a long time ago where speedstep was always on..(on AC, if you turned it OFF), but it was handled in a bios upgradeimzjustplayin wrote: I heard there is a problem with speedstep on the A22p laptops or something? I've been using one as a "coding" & "Plays all my Dos games" system... but I'd say it's more of the question of why you would want one.imzjustplayin wrote:Thinking about buying one, any reason for me not to?.

I had an A21p at one point. I loved it but ended up selling and replacing with a T series because I wanted something smaller. I dislike that I couldn't hot swap and I think it would have been a good idea for IBM to have added a cooling solution to the GPU. However, the case seemed more solid than the one on most T2x laptops, the CPU always ran pretty cool and the graphics chipset was relatively powerful.

Being someone who has had a lot of A2xP machines, here's how I see it: it all depends on what you're going to use it for. As a charming, inexpensive desktop replacement they are great, and the UXGA screen is hard to beat given the price range.
If you're intent on doing serious work and/or gaming, you'll need to move on, to at least lower portion of the A3 series...at which point you may as well start looking at A31Ps which are by far the most notable A series...
Back to A2xP, the biggest issue is limitation to 512 RAM. Everything else you can pretty much overcome, or get around it.

Re: Opinions on the A2Xp series of laptops?
Why is WC3 choppy on there when the specs for WC3 are far exceeded by the video card? I was quite satisfied with my AIW Rage 128pro for my desktop but have sinced moved on. What made me so interested in this laptop was that it had a UXGA screen and it reminded me of the times I had with my Rage 128pro. IIRC WC3 could run a T20 right? And that laptop only had a Sage 16MB video card.
WC3 is fine, I find it very playable at 800x600 w/ most of the video settings on medium->high.
I meant a noticeable amount of games that came after 2003,start becoming a little too much for the Rage 128.. like 18wheels of steel came out about 1 year later, and you have to drop down to 640480/512x384 to avoid getting those occasional slowdowns
The performace you had with the AIW128Pro will be the same on the A22P
