Dead/stuck pixel on R61?
Dead/stuck pixel on R61?
Hi
Just received my Thinkpad R61 and its great - except for some pixel issues. There is one pixel at the top of the screen that seems to be permanently stuck/dead, and I've tried to use UdPixel (http://udpix.free.fr/) to figure the color of that pixel. It is definitely not visible when the screen is blue, black or red - but it is clearly visible when the screen is lime, white or yellow. When the screen is colored lime, the pixel looks black, and when colored white or yellow, the pixel looks red.
So the pixel must change color and therefore cannot be dead, I assume. But can a stuck pixel change color like that?
While the dead/stuck pixel at the top seems to be permanent, this R61 also gets several random stuck pixels from time to time. They're white, does not pop up at the same place on the screen, and disappears on reboot. That's strange, I think - so I'm wondering if all this could be caused not by a bad LCD screen but by the onboard grapich?
the exact specs of this computer can be found here:

(Btw - I've asked the dealer whether I could return my R61 and get a new one - no answer yet. And btw - IBM/Lenovo should really have a zero dead pixel tolerance on brand new products and then maybe switch to the ISO standards in a one month time. It sucks to get a new product with a defect and then not being able to do anything.)

Hello,
i perhaps have one answer for your random pixel problem.
It seems, that the ultranav driver has a known bug.
If this type of pixel appears, you have to press the middle button of your ultranav! Then the dead pixel disappears.
The other pixel problem on the top of your Display seems another Problem, i hope you get it fixed!
kind regards
Andreas

The dealer wouldn't replace it because the software has been activated. So I guess I will have to accept this dead pixel.. or hope that the screen is so bad that the number of dead pixels eventually reaches the high number that lenovo requires in order to replace it.
Pressing the middle Ultranav button solved the random pixel problem. Thanks, Agotthelf.

For your dead pixel you can try JScreenFixcsloth wrote:The dealer wouldn't replace it because the software has been activated. I have had success with that program in the past.
