Fn and Alt keys strange behaviour after Mainboard change

#1 Post by m_damyanov » Sun Aug 12, 2007 4:10 am

Hi, everybody!

I'm new to this forum, so please be tolerant ;)

I have a ThinkPad R60 with Vista. A week ago during a BIOS update using System Update, the BIOS was destroyed. At the service centrer couldn't fix it and replaced the mainboard. When I got it back I found very strange behaviour of two keyboard keys. When I hold down the Fn key (only this key), the system goes to sleep mode. The Left Alt key is working now like the Fn key - combinations like Alt+F4 send system to sleep, Alt+F2 locks the system, etc. But Alt key won't work like Fn key with the Arrow keys for media player control.

I have to mention that when I got back the Notebook the Windows was busted so I had to run the Repair program.

So, do you have any suggestions why the keyboard is acting like that?

Well, I want to tell you what we found out about the problem back at the service centre.

When I took it there for the first time, they replaced the Mainboard. No problem about it. Until someone tried to install the keyboard. Connecting the keyboard to the mainboard he managed to damage the connection pins on the mainboard. Afterwards there were problems with keyboard and system memory.

Hope it won't happen to any of you. :)
