how to use the card reader in R61

#1 Post by rbi » Sun Aug 12, 2007 10:34 pm

I just got my new R61 89185MM. I noticed that underneath the palm rest, there is a slot that looks like the 4-in-1 card reader. But I am not quite sure that it is. Can anyone know of it? By the way, how am I going to use it after I insert the card-I mean how to get it out? Pull it out or other way(there is a very tiny light blue near the slot). Many thanks.

The symptoms you mentioned surely sounds like a 4-in-1 media card reader.

The mechanism is very easy, just insert a compatible card in (the card won't fully go inside the reader, some portion would be visible/accessible to you), the light will turn on, when you're done working with it, press "Safely Remove Hardware" on the right task pane in Windows and give the card a little push with your thumb nail, there's a spring inside the card reader that will push back the card, outside, towards you.

You shouldn't have any problem if you have ever inserted a memory card in digital camera, cellphone etc...

Thanks ryengineer. I just found that in the Hardware maintenance manual, the location for the card reader in R61 15.4 inch models is exactly where I mentioned. Also they have the ejection button I suspect it is the blue tiny one. It seems that I have to use a pin to eject the card if I can't push the card out of the slot.
