New/Refurbished ThinkPad R50 with display problems

#1 Post by gablin5 » Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:21 pm

Hi,

I recently left a position where I was issued an IBM Thinkpad R50 by my employer. I was so used to having one, I decided to go buy one. I purchased a refurbished R50. Everything seems to be working OK, but the display is not 100% correct.

In internet explorer, there are no backgrounds on the pages. For example, Yahoo won't show any of the colors. When you click on color options on the Yahoo home page, nothing shows. If you hold the mouse over the spot the buttons should be, it will show a link, but that's all.

In Yahoo games, when I look for the list of games, nothing shows up. There are also thin lined b lack boxes around everything. I've been playing with things for several days, but am not getting anywhere. Can anyone help?

Try running the PCdoctor video tests to see what turns up.

I did all of those tests and they came out fine. I took it back to Microcenter, and the tech there couldn't figure it out either. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I've updated the video driver, all windows files, etc.

Thank You!

Doesn't sound like a hardware issue. Have you tried reinstalling Windows from the recovery partition?

Agreed. It's amazing what an OS reinstall can fix.
