R40e Ram issue.

#1 Post by Bob_Smith » Fri Aug 31, 2007 3:03 am

I have just put in a 512mb module into this machine but the installed memory still only reports 256mb. I have updated bios also but it has not helped. Any ideas?

Sir, please reinsert it following these instructions or swap the memories between the slots or test them one at a time in different slots to check whether if any of the memory banks are not bad.

Please also make sure whether the memory you're installing is compatible with the machine or not.

thankyou for your reply. I have done all of this already. The memory i am using is a 3200 stick so speed wise im sure it is not compatible but size wise it "should" be. unfortunately i am unable to get the slower speed sticks anymore.

PC-3200 is backward compatible for PC-2100 that R40e uses.

After reinserting it, please go into BIOS and check the capacity of memory it reports.

The memory module itself could be dead, but the machine would beep on that, I think.

Hi. New here, but I have this exact same problem...is there a solution to this?

CPU-Z says that 512's are installed, but Windows XP System data (and BIOS screen) only shows 256 installed in each slot.

Is there some setting I need to change?

edit: just to add, the Motherboard chipset is reported by CPU-Z to be ATI RS200/RS200M.

MT/Model is 2684-H4U
