Urgent: R52 error 210: Stuck Key

#1 Post by himz » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:28 am

Hi,
I started my R52 after abt a month and got the following message-
" Error
210: Stuck Key 0F .
Press <F1> to setup."

But pressing F1 doesn't result in anything. I urgently need to access some data in this TP. Can someone help?

Check the R52 HMM (hardware maintenance manual) for the error code definition.

-->This is a system board POST/BIOS error code (nothing to do with Windows). The ERROR 210: is a standard POST (Power On Self Test) error message that indicates an error with the keyboard. The error condition is that a keyboard scan code was received from the keyboard when none was expected, after the keyboard was Reset.
If this occurs most of the time when you power on your system, then it indicates that this key is sticking down or the key mechanical or electrical parts are broken. Some times blowing out and cleaning out around the keys will resolve this problem. Some times holding the keboard vertical with the front edge down and droping several inches will clear up the problem. Otherwise, you need to replace your keyboard with a new (or at least a working) one.

Sir, one of the key on your keyboard has really stuck. Please refer to this and this document from lenovo.

0F is the corresponding code to the key that is stuck, which I don't know which key is associated with, you should manually try to hunt for the stuck key by pressing them gently or disassemble/ assemble the whole keyboard by taking off the screws from the bottom to see if that helps.

Here are keyboard Removal and Installation videos.

Good Luck!

0F = shift in

**check your "shift" keys** one of them might be stuck..

0F is a hexadecimal code representing the "shift in" key. Check the ASCII table for 0F.

well friends, i took out the keyboard, tapped and cleaned it a bit (especially around "shift" key). None of the keys are physically stuck. One more thing, when started up my tp with access ibm (blue button), I got till the "press ctrl+alt+del" screen, but after pressing this combination, the enter password screen wasn't coming. Seems like ther is sum major problem with by tp

Well, if the 'shift' ket is stuck, when you hit ctrl-alt-del you're really not inputting that key combination, but rather 'shift-ctrl-alt-del. It won't work. You need a new keyboard.

0F is the TAB key, not the shift key.
It is the scan code table that has to be investingated, not the ascii table

http://www.barcodeman.com/altek/mule/scandoc.php

Has just verified it by booting a ThinkPad with the tab key held down, I did get the same error.

I am using my R52 right now and it seems to be working...

Ok, go to ebay and look for a second hand R51 or R52 or T4x keyboard. (Take note of your thinkpad inch).. 15" and 14.1" have different keyboard..

:D  8)

I later realised my 3-yr warranty hasn't lapsed. So, the Keypad got replaced free of cost.
Long Live IBM/Lenovo.

Thanks guys for all the advice.
