Hello from a new forum member and a new ThinkPad member!

I just picked my new ThinkPad R61i up from Circuit City a few hours ago and paired it with my Verizon wireless WAN card. Man, I can't believe I never came into this scene before, these ThinkPads are definitely every bit the GMC of computing (remember the "We are professional grade?).

I got the R61i with the following stats on it:

160gb Hard Drive (5400rpm I assume)
2gb Ram
Intel Core Duo 1.6ghz
Windows Vista Home Premium
Fingerprint Scanner
DVDRW

Basically all the goodies that made me want to buy the laptop. The best part about it was that it was $999.99, with a $150 rebate, and the Verizon Wireless card has a $50 rebate as well. So the good thing is that it will pay for my upgrade to Vista Business.

My first impressions of this laptop, since I have only had it in my posession for a short time is very very awesome. I love the biometric system integrated into it. It is very convenient to just swipe my finger for the websites I use most. More importantly, I have already enjoyed the integrated Lenovo updating system. I find it to be alot more streamlined and efficient than the Windows Update architechture.

The other nifty little thing I like is the keyboard light on the screen. It isn't much, but it sure as heck is better than nothing. There is no wasted space anywhere on this computer, and every new thing that I am discovering about the technological features of this machine continue to astound me (I haven't bought a new laptop in over 5 years).

So now that I have finally removed all the crapware that Lenovo shipped with me, I am going to figure out if I can create a Vista install disk from the system since the machine didn't come with any operating system media.

I'll report with any other findings that blow my mind away as well. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to your contributions.
As far as the recovery cd goes, there should be something like Start/Programs/Thinkvantage/Create Recovery Discs. This will make a set of discs (either 1CD & 1DVD or 7CD's) that can be used to restore the computer in case of a hard drive replacement or corruption. There is also a function using the F11 key during startup that will restore windows for you. You should be able to select the components (crapware) you want to install and the ones you want to leave out.

I haven't seen any at Circuit City, but I've seen some Z60m's at the local Sam's Club.

Try BestBuy.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
