So I've been noticing that my Z60T seems to be having problems keeping cool. I haven't swapped out the thermal paste on the cpu yet, but that's next. I've been monitoring the cpu temp with notebook hardware control and have noticed a pattern and just wanted to post it.
When on battery or A/C power the temp will hover around 46 C. If I start pushing the machine a little, the temp will go to up over 60 C until the fan kicks on to cool it. When the temp is in the 50's and 60's the cpu has a hard time keeping up. My scrolling in documents or browsers skips, the system takes forever to switch from program to program... I get a lot of "lag." As soon as the temp is back down below 50 C the system is fine and fast. Weird, eh?
I'm gonna steal a dab of Arctic Silver from a friend and redo the thermal paste on the cpu soon. We'll see if that helps.
UPDATE: I have not taken the Arctic Silver to my cpu yet. Figured I'd monitor it a while. Seems like the temp runs from low 50's - low 60's, even when sitting idle. The fan will kick on when it hits 59-62 and drop it back down to about 46. The temp will then immediately run back up to the 50's. Now, for that short moment of time at 46 the machine runs GREAT. As soon as it gets back to the 50's, it LAGS. I contacted Lenovo and am going to try service. I've already tried restoring the machine. The machine is under extended warranty.
ANOTHER UPDATE: I've got the back of my machine propped up for better airflow and am consistently pushing 70 now, even when idle. I haven't heard back from Lenovo yet and have now ghosted my machine and run a full backup. Sheeooot.
