R61 "Four cycles of four short beeps and a blank screen

#1 Post by ThunderRiver » Fri Sep 21, 2007 10:17 pm

I have been experiencing some issues while booting up. Right after I pressed power button, I get "four cycles of four short beeps and a blank screen."

From http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46018, it shows the cause as "System board (Security chip)."

However, it doesn't tell me what else to do to troubleshoot. Any suggestions?

Note: I have TPM enabled running BitLocker in Vista
Also, if I force shutting down the machine, and try booting up again, and repeat that process for like 3 to 4 times. Eventually, Thinkpad will get to the boot screen. But it is very bizzare that TPM is that unstable.

I think it's telling you to replace the system board.

See page 44 in the HMM at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 549_01.pdf

What are we supposed to see on page 44 of the document linked above? All I see is a bunch of key combination functions. Was the wrong document linked? I have the same problem with a t42 motherboard. Thanks.

Or perhaps you're in the wrong forum.

But 4 cycles of beep would mean same for your mentioned thinkpad i.e. to replace the Planar card (motherboard).

EDIT: The Admin meant to say page 50.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
