R51 LCD question

#1 Post by Audiofight » Mon Sep 24, 2007 5:48 am

Alright. I have been searching for weeks before coming across this forum.

I have a R51 w/ 14" LCD. The LCD got cracked and now displays a vertical line 3/4 of the way up the screen and a horizontal line starts at the same point and runs 3/4 of the way across the screen. You can almost make out a hairline crack where the two lines meet.

The panel I pulled out of it is from Hynix, a HT14X19-110 panel. This is a basic XGA panel. Will the Samsung XGA 14" panel work as a replacement as long as it was from an R51?

Also, does anyone know definitely if any other models used the same panel to expand my search? I keep seeing some ebay listings and online stores saying that the R40 and R50/52 models had interchangable panels. But, IBM lists different numbers for each panel.

Just looking for some clarification. Thanks in advance.

Hey Audiofight,

T40/41/42/43's seem to share the same system boards as the R5X's and have 14.1 XGA's. So I'd surmize that they probably share many of the same LCD's as well.

The T model cases are stronger and are a thiner form then the R's. I do know that IBM used many manufacturers for their LCD suppliers.

Have you tried the Samsung yet? I think it should work as long as the ribbon will reach an is the same LCD socket type. Might want to use the Samsung's inverter as well. Again, check the ribbon/socket connection.
