Good ThinkPad for what I paid?

#1 Post by Medic » Tue Sep 25, 2007 9:06 pm

I recently purchase a ThinkPad off eBay for $599.99 plus $30.00 UPS Next Day shipping, and am wondering if I got my moneys worth?

Here are the specifications;
ThinkPad R60 type 9461-CTO
Intel® Pentium® Duo Core T2500 Processors 2.0 GHz
ATI Radeon X1300 64MB
1GB DDR-2 RAM (I will be adding another 1 gig stick if there are not two 512's)
60GB Hard Drive 5400RPM SATA (Will be upgrading to a 80 or higher more than likely.)
Internal Thinkpad 56K modem
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit
CDRW/DVD Combo
9 Cell Primary Battery
14 inch TFT XGA 1024x768
90W A/C Adapter
IBM ABG WLAN, Fingerprint Reader, Sierra wireless

Also, another question, what is Sierra wireless?

Sierra Wireless is a cellular wireless data card. Depending upon which wireless card you have, you can sign up for cellular internet data service from one of the cell phone carriers. AFAIK, they only offer at&t (Cingular) or Verizon in the US. The card you have will only work with one of those. Using Parts Lookup on the following site, you should be able to determine which one. The normal cost for this service is $60/mo. (plus taxes and fees) if you have a $39/mo voice plan.

System service parts - ThinkPad R60, R60e, R61, R61i (14.1 inch and 15.0 inch standard screens)

I am not really up on the latest prices, so I will defer answering that to others.

Any warranty?

Yes, two years left. I plan on possibly purchasing a extended deal if it would be allowed through Lenovo.

If you like the XGA resolution, then it is a good deal.

Enjoy your new "toy".

All the best.
