R50e not charging battery when plugged in

Hi,

My scout group bought 8 R50e's sometime back and one of them is now playing up. It does seem to want to charge the battery. If I look at Battery information on the Battery Maximiser Guage I see that it has a Voltage of 11.54v but nothing on current or wattage.

I have just updated the Maximiser. I have tried swapping the power cable and I have tried switching batteries. The same problem keeps happening on the machine concerned. IE a battery charges on other machines but not the one I am concerned about.

Is there some settings I might what to check that is preventing the machine from Charging? Or does it sound like something Physical has gone wrong with the hardware?

Any suggestions welcome.

Is there warranty left on the laptop not charging the battery?

Can you look to see if there is a bent or broken blade that slips into the battery?

Sadly the warrenty is long expired.

I have looked at the battery connectors in the machine and I think they are fine. I don't think anyone had even removed the battery before the problem started to happen.

I don't think it's software by the fact that your not being able to charge, discharge, run, or observe it's status in the Battery Maximizer application. I think it's a fuse. On your system board it would be under the escape key on your keyboard. A majority of the fuses for this system are in this space (where the main power enters) and they are very small.

This is a tough one, I normally don't suggest taking it into a shop because of the expense (and I personally do not) but in this case I would recommend it. This type of system board is miniturized and densely packed and it's not an easy board for someone with even average skills to repair. It is easy to damage this type of board or fix one issue and create another by floating a nearby neighboring component. A special soldering iron is needed, one that can be temperature controlled.

Unless another member has different idea or suggestion.......... I would at least take it in for a quote. Now you know why I asked about the warranty at least. I had a hunch, wish it wheren't so.
