R50p QXGA issue

#1 Post by flak-spammer » Sat Oct 06, 2007 3:38 am

I tried to upgrade my R50p to a QXGA screen, however it doesn't seem the inverter is providing any power. I know the screen backlight works as I've tried it with an inverter from another laptop. So I'm wondering if anyone has any idea's of what it could be.

The inverter card for an XGA R50/P is part number 91P7335. For an SXGA or UXGA R50/P the inverter part number is 91P7336. LCD cables can be different too. Make sure all part numbers line up for you application, see the link below. Which part numbers (LCD, inverter, and LCD cable) are you using, and what was the upgrade from/to?

I had a UXGA screen before and my FRU's are: 27K9953 (inverter), 91P6837 (cable), and 92P6684 (screen). So I have the right stuff, it just seems that the inverter isn't receiving any power, the LED's do light up, however there is no voltage coming out of inverter for the backlight. Also I do not have the laptop fully re-assembled at the moment.

If you hook your old LCD up temporarily and it works, the problem is your new LCD.

the backlight in my old LCD died, that's why I bought this LCD. I know this one works I can see the IBM logo on the screen, however I think something might be wrong with the cable or the inverter.

When your old LCD died, did you troubleshoot the problem? What was the cause?

The backlight was producing pink light so I concluded that the backlight was the problem, a short time after the LCD turned black (the backlight got so hot one corner kept buring). After that the backlight died.
