R50e. Help loading game

#1 Post by sivadlliw » Sun Oct 07, 2007 12:29 pm

Hi, this is my first post so hope its in the right place.

I recently purchased Counterstrike along with a load of other games from a program called "Steam". Basically you pay then they let you download the games.

I have installed the game and when I click it to load, the picture from the game of two guys comes up, then the screen flashes and goes back to the desktop. The picture of the guys loads really big, but the desktop comes back at a normal resoloution

I have an IBM R50e Laptop which is approx. 1-2 years old, and it is missing the drivers for "Base System Device", "SM Bus Controller" and "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller"

Could these missing drivers be stopping the game loading, or could it be somthnig to do with my graphics card, or is there somthing obvious I am not doing?

Thanks alot for your help in advance,

Will Davis

You are right !

Assuming that you are running Windows XP, install service pack 2 of XP. It takes SM bus driver automatically.

SM bus drivers doesnt affect game. Make sure you have "Active X 9.c" version installed on your laptop & you have enough space on c:/ drive. Sometimes due to less virtual memory this problem occur's. Try to run the game at 16bit colour quality.

I am having R50e-1834-EQ1 which is Centrino 1.5 .
I wonder if your R50e is Centrino itself. How much MB ram your thinkpad has ?

On my laptop I tried "Need for speed underground II" and works ok.
On heavily animated tracks it stucks for few seconds. Otherwise no problem. I added 512 MB ram.

If you are having Centrino 1.5 processor & 512 + ram then there should be no problem with the game. CS works fine on above config. :)
