R61i drivers missing after XP "downgrade"

#1 Post by federal102 » Tue Oct 09, 2007 12:44 pm

I recently purchased a new R61i with Vista. After being thoroughly frustrated with the speed of the machine, I formatted the hard drive and installed XP. The machine now flys!!

I have been able to locate most of the drivers, but have not been able to get the wireless internet to work. In addition I still have three "unknown" PCI hardware devices and and an unknown Network Controller.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get these issues resolved?

Welcome to the forum.

Could you let us know the type and model number of your R61i, this can be found on a sticker on the underside of the TP. Do NOT publish your s/n.

The reason being; there are different models with different components and this information will help to identify the exact TP.

And which devices are showing in device manager under network controllers? Have you installed all of the "power" drivers?

You should get all the drivers you need here, if you haven't already found the site.
Power management drivers are the cause of alot of "unknown device" queries.

Thanks for the drivers link. I got my wireless issue resolved and now I just have three unknown Base System Devices which are PCI bus 21, device 0, function 3, 4, 5

Any idea what these are?

Install and run ThinkVantage System Update, when it works it performs like a champion. The sole purpose of it is to gather and install all drivers/utilities/tools/softwares for your machine.

I tried the Thinkpad update before and it did not load any of the drivers that I needed. I had to go and find them myself.

Still stuck with those pesky unknown PCI devices.

Do you have audio, modem, lan?
Have you installed power manager and acpi power management?
Or maybe better, let us know which drivers you have installed succesfully.

I installed all the drivers I can think of, ran the auto update and the unknown devices are still there.

The machine functions fine and I do not seem to be missing anything so, I'm just going to ignore the unknown devices until they become an issue.

Thanks for all the help

I have exactly the same problem. Downgraded from Vista Business to XP Pro and can't find drivers for *Base System Device*, which is 3x listed under the Unknown deivce.
All other drivers installed successfully even it took a lot of time to find them. I like my new R61i but finding the proper drivers is just horrible. System update 3.0 can't find any drivers, just utilities and tools.
I installed everything I got from lenovo support page, including Power Management and ACPI Power Management. Also Lan, Wi-Fi, BT, modem, audio, display is properly installed. Intel chipset update applied.
My model nr. is 8932-9ZG, I will appreciate any help leading to removing the three unknown devices.

edit 11:26 a.m. GMT+01:

FInally I've got it! It worth to spent a lot of time by searching and trying of everything possible :-)
So here is the hint: The three *Base System Devices* listed under Unknown Devices in Device Manager are these:

Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller

- Ricoh Memory Stick Controller
- Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller
- Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller

I haven't found these drivers nowhere on the lenovo/ibm support pages though, I found them on my HDD in the driver directory, which came from factory with pre-installed Windows Vista.

Hope this will help all R61i owners solving their issues.

PS. Thanks to Lenovo / IBM for claiming that model R61i doesn't have integrated the memory card reader. After applying above drivers I tried to insert an SD card and works perfectly :-)
