A3X wireless report

#1 Post by RWDPLZ » Thu Oct 11, 2007 6:29 pm

I thought I'd post this for anyone looking to upgrade their A3X internal wireless, so they can save some time and money.

Back on August 14th I purchased an IBM-branded Intel 2915ABG mini-PCI card to replace the stock one that was in my A31 2653-CU3. This was IBM FRU # 27K9936.I installed the card, and after applying the no-1802 fix, I started the computer, and installed the drivers. I recieved an error, something like code 10: Device cannot be started. So I put the card up for sale here and sold it to a forum member, who reports the card is working in his Thinkpad, a T42.

Next I ordered an Intel 2200BG, no IBM FRU. This one worked perfectly, and I used it in the CU3 and later the A31p 2653-R8U I'm using now.

Today I recieved an Intel 2915ABG (again no IBM FRU). This was the easiest install yet. After putting it in and staring the computer, it told me 'driver not found' so I plugged in an ethernet cable and re-enabled the network connection, and it installed the driver and connected to my wireless network.

So I would reccommend to anyone looking to upgrade their A3X wireless card, not to buy one with an IBM FRU, but rather buy a generic Intel card.

Now if I could just find an 802.11n mPCI card...
