Who knows a seller for a good A31 replacement main battery?

#1 Post by ElbertR » Thu Oct 18, 2007 9:44 am

Having no luck finding a seller who has a good replacement main battery for the A31(P) for a decend price.

3 out of the 4 I got from Ebay did not work and even don't fit right in the laptop.

I got one good one from an ebay seller about a year ago but he is no longer selling them. Lenovo doesn't sell these anymore.

Tried to get a battery made by BatteryTech on Amazon, but this seller send me another cheap knock-off instead that won't hold a charge.

So far I think my best change is to buy it directly from BatteryTech, but they costs $135.- (http://www.bti-store.com/productview.asp?pid=IB-A30L)

Anybody else have any suggestions?

I bought an NOS (New, old stock) IBM battery from ebay seller eco-logic back in the beginning of summer, still using it and it lasts about 2 hours. He had about 50 at the time, wish I'd bought a couple more, well worth the $50 I paid. Might contact him and see if he has any left.

You can usually spot the knock-offs from the originals by seeing if the battery has the IBM logo in the upper-left corner of the label.

I've got an original A3 battery, cycle count 1 for $45.
Also a replacement one, 27 cycles, for $30.
Both are in green and with 100% of their design capacity.

PM if you're interested.

I don't mind the knock-offs as long as they work. 4 out of the 5 I bought so far didn't work (also they don't fit right).

I know how to tell apart a imitation from the real thing, have been looking for an original unused IBM battery for a while. Just don't see any for sale anymore.

ajkula66, in your case those might be good batteries, but I have learned the hard way: DO NOT BUY A USED BATTERY, ever. Just don't want to take the chance.

So far, BatteryTech seems like the most reliable option, even if it costs more.

Will have to wait for the refunds for the last two batteries I bought to come through.

Bought one more 'fake' replacement battery and it also turned out to be a dud. That makes it 3 in a row.

This one charges ok, but looses it's charge in less then 15 minutes. It shows a manufacture date of 2002.

That's it for me with these cheap 'replacement' batteries. Simply not worth the trouble.

They have been talked about a number of times here. Use the Search link at the top of the page and plug in:

batteryrefill*

into the search box. I've purchased 600-series batteries from them and have been satisfied with the performance. They DO bear scars from the surgery (glue and small cracks along the seam) but they have held together.

warning on batteryrefill.com are goping out now

#9 Post by cybercorsair » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:07 am

I have sad new to report on www.batteryrefill.com as I was getting ready to use them I did some new searching online and found that many are not getting any costumer support by phone or email and that moth are passing them with no battery being returned to them.
those that do get the battery back seem to find the reill works but with lots of work in dis-cahrging and re-charging over and over to get the max life.

looking at the emails and posting it seems to have started in the last year or so and have gotten worse .
I have feeling they were too small in staff and have become overload with orders and now have too many problems to do the jobs they started. there is high demand for this type of servers so getting hit with thousands of orders would be my best guess

this sad as i would have love to have gotten them fix my 2 A31 batteries .

I do not know fore sure what has happen but i may be looking into this as it seem the AG office in this State and the local Frud branch of the local police for that area will also be investigating this as well.

Anyway if any one has or was planing to use them I would look info what is going on and maybe hold off your orders till we know why things are so bad
I hate that fact that this is need service adn that they are falling apart after ready good reviews a few years back to people calling the FBI now.
this is some of the current post http://atinyblip.com/batteryrefillcom-review/
and the are also using the name eBattery, Inc now too

If anyone knows of another company in the US doing this work please let all know

Thanks

I too had the same experiences, several dead batteries and several wrong types. Then I stumbled upon this on E-Bay
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Thinkpad-A30-A3 ... 2|294%3A50

I admit, it sounds hokey, but, I received a genuine IBM battery, in good time, no problems, it fits and the cycle count was 11 (why 11, I don't know). But it holds a charge (over 2 hours) and battery manager shows all green. For $18.95 plus shipping, hard to go wrong.

Its sound good i did buy some of the 2000 bay batteries off eBay some time back some were good some not so good but better than my main battery I will need 2 of them now .
The battery refill place seems to be having problems from posting I have been reading .
this is the cheapest price I seen listed .

I seen lower cycle counts and still the battery wasn't holding a charge so I not sure what is up on the programs that check the battery some times.

I've had good experiences with Intelligent Batteries for replacement batteries for my ThinkPads. They have online stores in both the US and Canada.

So these guys want $58 (plus shipping) for a battery for an A31p (or A3x). Why is this better than an ebay seller that asks $26.99 (free shipping)?

Seriously, I'm asking because I need a battery and I can't see spending double the money for the same thing.

There are various posts in this forum and other ThinkPad-related forums from people who bought batteries off eBay only to discover that they were used, only partly refurbished, even defective, etc. If you're confident with the eBay seller who charges $27 then go for it.

I'm merely reporting that my experience with IB has been excellent. Their replacement batteries not only last longer than the originals they replaced but they also carry a 1-year limited warranty (that BTW I've never had the opportunity to test.) I'll leave it to you to determine if that's "the same thing" and/or worth "double the money."

P.S. When they had A2x and A3x batteries for sale IBM/Lenovo charged well over $100 so maybe $58 is not so unreasonable after all.

I too have purchased from Intelligent Batteries and received both very good batteries & excellent service. I wouldn't ever buy a battery off eBay, its far too risky and my ThinkPads are far too valuable to me.
