Memory Install R61

#1 Post by bluethundr » Thu Oct 25, 2007 1:15 pm

Hi there,

I've been googling my head off and have yet to find any useful information. So, I'm hoping someone here can help!

I've been given a ThinkPad R61i to install memory into, but I can't figure out how to take apart the bloody thing.

I remember in other thinkpads, you just loosen a couple screws and there's a drop-down panel where the slots are. But I can't seem to find them on this bad boy.

Do you have to pop the keyboard off to find the slots? Or is there somewhere on the bottom of the machine where the slots are? Can anyone point me to a good take-apart site for this machine with pictures?

Thanks

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

The Hardware Maintenance Manual can be used to take apart the system. You can find one for the R61i here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 64200.html

Downloadable as an Adobe .PDF file, there's instructions and diagrams on how to remove everything from the system. Looking at the bottom of an R61, there's several screws with pictures of a keyboard and RAM chip (small rectangle with 'legs'). My guess is that you have to remove the keyboard to get at the memory slots.

edit: Had some time to poke around the lenovo.com site and I found this (for the R61; may be applicable to the R61i):

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67756

There are similar diagrams/instructions and videos for other systems. Plug in "+memory +removal +installation" and your particular model (with a "+" in front) into the search box at the top of this page:
