A31 Constant Beeping

#1 Post by SaderBiscut » Mon Nov 26, 2007 1:31 pm

My A31 Thinkpad will start beeping almost randomly, and then it won't stop. It's a endless loop of three beeps in a row. (three beeps, short pause, three beeps, short pause, ect) It tends to start if I pick up or move the laptop, and sometimes stops if I move it again.

I'm pretty sure it's something with the laptop, the laptop's volume buttons adjust the volume but the windows volume buttons do not.

Does anyone know what this is a sign of, or what it means?

According to Hardware Maintenance Manual, it's either DIMM. or System board.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I was also getting the beeps on occassion with my A31. Here is how I fixed it using tips from another forum member:

I just got an A31 that would 'sometimes' see the 2nd slot RAM but mainly wouldn't. I was going nuts trying all sorts of tests and RAM types but finally I saw your suggestion. I took a plastic Subway gift card and folded it in half. Then I placed it over the RAM in the second slot. Ta-da, no more RAM issues. The second stick is seen every time. Awesome!
