So I've given up on my thinkpad.

#1 Post by Asbradley21 » Wed Nov 28, 2007 12:10 am

I've gone through a fair amount of hassles with my thinkpad r40. Among them, I've had a broken power socket, hard drive, overheated to the point that could boil water, optical drive died, and the one that finally did it in: the socket for the fan broke off the mother board. I had a ghetto-rigged system off foam and steel tape that held it in place for about 4 months. But it will no longer spin no matter what I do. So this, I bid a sad but almost relieving good bye to my passed thinkpad. If anyone would like an r40 for parts or want to repair it, send me a PM with an offer (w/ 30gb hdd if you want it). I will be posting a for sale post in marketplace shortly for the accessories I have, port replicator, secondary hard drive caddy for ultrabay 2000. And a basically new Energizer battery. Feel free to PM about those as well. Oh, and Evan, apologies, I won't be able to get your vista cd to you for a while, the image for the disk was on there.... I'll try to get my data off there when I get a chance to access a secondary laptop to use.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm sending a PM about the battery/parts, as we have the same model.
Refurbished ThinkPad R40, 2.2 GHz, 512 MB, 60 GB, running Ubuntu Linux & Windows XP (at least until I can get Cedega working)
