Max Memory...
Max Memory...
Is there any particular physical reason T60s support 4gigs and our Z61s only support 3?
by that, could this all be remedied by a BIOS update down the road. Just like enabling Intel VT extensions happened by an update a few months ago?

Re: Max Memory...
Thinkpad T60s(series) also only supports memory up to 3GB. The chipsets used in Thinkpad Z61 series is also identical to that used in T60 i.e. Merom and Yonah, the reason both can't utilize 4GB is due to chipset limitation.Bob34 wrote:Is there any particular physical reason T60s support 4gigs and our Z61s only support 3?.....snip

So is Lenovo's Site incorrect?
I thought they upped the T60 max through a bios upgrade a couple months back.

Not incorrect, that has been mentioned in terms of physical size:
lenovo wrote:Maximum memory capacity may require the replacement of standard component with largest supported component available. On ThinkPad systems with an Intel 945GM, 945PM, GM965, or PM965 chipset, even though it is possible to physically install 4GB of memory, the actual amount of memory addressable by an operating system will be limited to 3GB. This limitation does not exist with the Intel GM965 and PM965 with the 64-bit operating systems Windows XP Professional 64-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit Editions.

I dont think so, it seems that all motherboards with Intel 945 chipset family are doomed in this way. Btw Apple with their MacBook Pro are the same.HarryWild wrote:So does this mean that the Z61t will be able to recognized 2X2gb ddr2 when the bios is updated to do so? to get it to 4gb!
You can take a look at here too
