Restore CDs ?
Monsieur Bill Morrow, good morning.
Trying, looking for the " Make your Restore CDs" prompt in my G41, I can not find it anymore. DO you know if it gets deactivated after making a set ? To prevent doubling up for friends ???

It should be in start-programs-think vantage (or accessIBM).
I believe it should state, where you previously created the cds, that a set has already been created and that you are only allowed to create one set.
As far as "doubling up for friends" is concerned, maybe, it wont stop people copying the disks though.

It means, a set has already been created. I believe if you do a factory restore once again the option will reappear, again.
Could be worth mentioning, in the following circumstances one is unable to create Product Recovery disks:

You are not able to create the Recovery Discs in your current windows system in the following situations.
- Created one set of recovery discs already.
- Partitioned the hard drive.
- Deleted the original system recovery hidden partition.

Restore CDs.
Thanks lost Torontonian. ( Lost in LA. )
>> I believe if you do a factory restore once again the option will reappear, again.
I have only done one full restore and can not remember seeing that option showing up again. I just checked and it is not there, anew.
Some have said that there is a way to reset that pointer and be able to do the 7 CDs, maybe doing a restore from Z:\ ???
Have a great day.

Restore CDs again.
Carbon, how are you ?
>>You have to delete all the partitions and restore from the 7 cd set in order to make another recovery set.
Sound like a catch 22 to me, to make the CDs you have to restore from the CDs. Tee ! hee !.
I am lucky, I got a set from IBM. I could not make them, it quit a CD #3, I called them up and they sent me a full set. I have kept these like there was no tomorrow. I even managed to get a XP Home set as the G41 was done and then I again called and got a Pro set. Talk about being convincing, I was.
You be good Carbon. JP.

R&R 4 ?
Good morn, Robert.
I would like your opinion on R&R 4, is it worth the trouble ? I have heard that it is somehow problematic in some aspect.
Did you upgrade from 3.1 or later, did you have to uninstal the previous version before doing the D/L and instal of Ver 4 ?
A curious mind would like to know. Thanks. JP.

Re: R&R 4 ?
I'm running R&R 4.0 - 4.1 fails to install with the error "not enoughjparrot427 wrote:Good morn, Robert.

space" (or similar). I'm told that that refers to space in the Service
partition (I have 55% free on my HDD). I have the same problem trying
to install 4.1 on my NetVista desktop.
I think you're supposed to remove any 3.x version before installing 4.x,
but I don't recall that I did. That might be the cause of my problem with
installing 4.1.
I bought my ThinkPad in November of 2005 and used whatever R&R version
that shipped with it, and I've always upgraded to any later versions.
I like 4.0 OK, with the exception that when booted into the predesktop
area, it discusses system diagnostics but doesn't offer the opportunity
to run PC Doctor - which I believe it did on 3.x. I can get around that
by booting from the PC Doctor for DOS floppy if need be.
I'm a member of the Pro R&R group - It's been a savior to me several
times.

R&R 4 yet ?
Well, Robert, I have not yet gone the new R&R 4 route. I will read on it first, you know the RTFM stuff.
I rely on an image of my HD for safety, I use True Image and I am quite happy with it, takes much less time than a redo from Z:\ or from the 7 CDs.
Different folks ! Have a Merry. JP
