About the screen, Beeblebrox's reply in http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=7089 gave me hope so I opened up the screen in my bathroom with a HEPA filter running while wearing no shirt, a shower cap and gloves.
The thick plastic with the dots had white imprints on it from the papery reflector! I tried to scrub them off but I couldn't get them to disappear. Has anyone had any luck removing these white spots caused by the trackpoint and keys? I'm thinking about getting another screen of the same dimensions and trading out the dotted plastic sheet. Or is there some chemical that would be safe to use? I was thinking about trying vinegar and water.
The screen case also seems really flimsy. The LCD distorts with minimal pressure on the back. Is there a more solid LCD case that would fit the original R30 base? Or can I modify the current one?
About the keyboard, the left, up, pgup and pg down keys don't work sometimes. If I press hard on one of those keys, it starts working again--and so do all the others!
Also, the hard drive in this laptop is really worrying me. The temperature goes over 60C with not much HD load at all, even if I keep in on the table. Is this normal or should I get a new hard drive?
Thanks!
