R61i slow browsing

#1 Post by kdkrause » Thu Dec 06, 2007 12:37 am

I just purchased a R61i and I am not happy with the speed of my web browser while working wirelessly. I also have a T41 which is my work machine. When I place the T41 and R61i side by side, connect to my router and try to open a website the T41 is by far much quicker each and every time. The R61i is unbearably slow 30 sec - 1 min to open a webpage. Both machines show an excellent signal to my router and both show a speed of 11.0 Mbps. When I connect my R61i with a network cable the browsing is then much improved.

Does anyone have any suggestions I can try?

Maybe you should try to:

1. Disable some add-ons
2. Make sure your cache is small and clean
3. Use IE alternatives such as Firefox

For more information please take at look at:

And have you tried to plug in a cable to see if it's still unbearably slow? It would eliminate the possibility of a bad wireless card.

I am running XP pro.

I have disabled a bunch of add ons.
My cache is set at 50.
Browser works well when I am hard wired to the router.

Wireless card is Intel Pro 3945AG. I tried to update the driver but no better match was found.

I just recently received my R61i as well and the wireless internet browsing is INCREDIBLY slow. Not just normal slow, but slower than my old Sony from over 5 years ago with an inserting wireless card. It can take upwards to 5 minutes to load a simple web page sitting right next to the wireless router with excellent connection. I'm running it on Windows Vista and I've tried both IE and Firefox. I have no add-ons and it's brand new so I haven't made any changes. Has anyone figure out why it's running so slow? Or are these machines really just that poor in function when it comes to internet speed??

Hi,

it is possible, that your powersettings of the wireless card
are set to max powersaving?

If so, then try to switch it to normal or high power.

Maybe that´ll solve your performance problems.

Hi,

I just bought my wife an R61i last month with Vista home basic, but recently 'upgraded' to XP, and it's performance (including wifi) has been great ever since.

You might want to try uninstalling the device from Device Mgr and then add it back, using the Intel Pro wireless driver at

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62875

to reinstall it with the default settings.
When I did that, it just worked, and was noticeably faster than when running under Vista. Also it may be worthwhile to review your power mgmt settings, as mentioned earlier. Best of luck!

r61i Wireless card fix for Vista

#9 Post by uptonster » Sun Jan 06, 2008 9:11 pm

Just bought my wife an r61i and the wireless slowness was fixed by simply going to the lenovo site, download the newest drivers for the r61 wireless card, and follow install instructions from the lenovo to install and your problem should be fixed. This worked for Vista.
