Access Connection

#1 Post by blackgunnaz » Sat Dec 08, 2007 2:16 pm

I have the R61 8934-A7U. I was wondering how do I give Access Connection preference over windows network connection? because right now wheneva I hit the fn+f5 a window pops up saying that there are no supported wireless drivers installed. I have gone to the downloads section of the lenovo site, and have downloaded the necessary drivers. I have even went to the download folder and installed it that way.

the only thing i didn't do wuz uninstal or disable the windows network driver because I'm afrid that I styll may not get access connection to work, or it may mess up everything so that i cannot access the net. Just wondering what I should do, because I like the management of access connection better

Refer to the following thread:

or kindly search the forum.

see, I have read here in many places, and i don't seem to find anything that talks about my problem. I press fn + F5 and it says no supported wireless drives are included, the windows netowrk connection works fine, so I have uninstalled the wireless driver and hotkey driver. (I am using 3945abg driver) and AC, I restarted and have re-installed everything. and told windows not to use the wireless. styll same thing.

I have recently reformatted everything and I still have the same problems. I am not sure what happened that day, I wuz updateing AC over a wireless connection, and I think i lost the connection for a second (right after it uninstalled the AC, and therefore when it wuz possible to connect I didn't have anything to connect, restarted computer, and it went to windows)

Try the following tips:

Access Connections - some tips on how to use it.

As the thread in the previous post suggests, everything should be installed in the order, otherwise drivers might not work properly.

Whenever you update your wireless driver, you must uninstall Access Connections first and reboot. Then uninstall the old drivers, reboot and then install the newer ones then reboot once again. After rebooting, reinstall Access Connections.

styll no luck, the only thing left to try is too clean the registry after i've installed. but i have little hope of that working.

do i need to do anything about the windows connection to have access connection work??? like i dun understand, i've downloaded and installed every driver for the NIC off the lenovo site, but it still says no supported driver is installed.

actually thinking about it, when u reformat ur registry gets wiped and refreshed so stuff that's happened b4 should be gone too right? if so, then it really makes no sense, i've reformated like 3 times in the last month still nothing. do i need to reformat using the lenovo reformat stuff in resuce and recovery? because I did a fresh reformat so only the thinkvantage programs I want are running, and thereby reducing the load on my memory, because theres soooo many programs my comp was extrememly slow to start up (taken sumtitmes 7-10min to boot). I don't think it matters, because I've been receiving that message b4 i first reformated and that wuz using my thinkpad as how i recieved it.

like i stated above, i was uupdating one day over a wiress network, lost connection, then lost AC, tried it and reinstalled it, and always got no supported driver located.

I am really confused, and sadden because I like AC

I like to help you but either you are not doing things the way I am advising you to do or doing them improperly. Again I advise you to follow the following instructions and do it for your NIC drivers under Windows Vista:
antera309 wrote:Right - Here's how to fix this problem under Windows XP SP2:

You will need the install files for the latest versions of the following on your hard disk:
- IBM Access Connections
- IBM Hotkey Utility
- Driver for Intel PRO/1000 Cabled network card
- Intel ProSET Wireless (inc Intel 2200BG wireless network card driver)

1) Uninstall Access Connections. Don't reboot.

2) Uninstall Hotkey driver. Don't reboot.

3) Uninstall Intel ProSet Wireless (inc. 2200BG driver). Don't reboot.

4) Search the C:\WINDOWS\INF folder for any files containing "2200BG". Delete any OEMxx.INF files containing this string

5) Reboot

6) Uninstall any other software that includes network components (e.g. VPN client software)

7) In Device Manager, uninstall the driver for the Wired Ethernet PRO/1000 adapter.

8 ) Start REGEDIT and make the following registry deletions - THESE ARE THE KEYS THAT THE INTEL PROSET WIRELESS UNINSTALLER SHOULD REMOVE, AND DOESN'T!!

For all keys under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, look at the "Name" value in the "Connection" subkey. Delete ALL keys EXCEPT the one for "Bluetooth Network connection".

For all keys under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E975-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}}, look at the "Description" value. Delete they keys for "WLAN Transport" and "AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) vx.x.x.x"

Delete keys:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AEGISP
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_S24TRANS
(you will need to give yourself write permissions to these keys first)

Delete Keys:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AegisP
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\s24Trans

9) In System Properties-Advanced-Environment variables, you will see the string ;C:\Program files\Intel\Wireless\Bin will appear in the PATH system variable. This is another piece of sloppyness on the part of the Intel ProSET Wireless uninstaller. Delete it out and go OK.

10) Reboot

11) Using Device Manager, force a re-install of the latest version of the Intel PRO/1000 Cabled network adapter (choose "I will choose the driver to install" then "Have disk" and provide the location on the hard disk with the PRO/100 driver files for XP). Reboot if prompted.

11) Install Intel ProSET Wireless, choose Custom Install, and make sure both components are selected for installation. Reboot when prompted.

12) Right-click "My network places" and choose "Properties". Right-click "Wireless Network Connection" and choose "Propertes". On the "Wireless Networks" tab, un-tick the checkbox marked "Allow Windows to manage wireless networks" and click OK.

13) Install the IBM Hotkey utility. Don't reboot.

14) Install IBM Access Connections. Don't reboot.

15) Copy file LIBEAY32.DLL from C:\Program files\Intel\Wireless\Bin to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.

16) Reboot.

17) Re-install any network software (e.g. VPN client) that you might have uninstalled earlier and reboot again.

After the reboot, everything should work as intended!
Also look into the following threads:

More Fn-F5 problems.

Access Connections 4.12 + Intel Pro/Wireless 10.5 borked.

You're missing a driver or two, I suggest you go back to factory state if you can't make Access Connections work under clean install.

ryengineer,

Many thanks for posting that advice. It helped me to sort out my mother-in-law's R50e problem. Hopefully the old bat will go home now.
