Dothan 2.0 to 2.1 Any performance increase?

just wondering.. currently I am using a Dothan 2.0 CPU on my thinkpad R50P and I am thinking about switch it out for a Dothan 2.1
I have the 2.1 chip..but just wondering it its really worth it (performance wise) to go through the trouble.
yes, I luv tinkering with thinkpads..
Can i overclock on a 2.1 , I read somewhere that the higher specs Intel chips are more capable for overclocking...never tried it but sounds interesting..anywhere i can get more info on overclocking CPUs on thinkpads...
If anyone has any experience with these two chips. Please let me know..

Difference will be teeny, literally 5%. I don't think I would feel a difference.

I would decide based on how well it undervolts. If the current chip has better than average capability (comparing to what other people posted on the internet), then I would stick with it. If it doesn't, then I'd try out the new one. The idea is that better undervolting=better overclocking. However, overclocking is still a dicey affair either way, you would have to use clockgen or similar, and it tends to not be stable. Not to mention that the official 2.1 chips already get pretty hot, you really can't expect to overclock far beyond that.

not competing ...But I just love to break open these things and see what they look like from the inside...I even bought a little set of screwdrivers tool set and lay it out perfectly and and cut it open like a surgeon...i don't ware a mask but i do use a led flashlight.

aaa, thanks for the warning, I think it was from CPU Magazine or maxiumPC stating that CPU chip are pretty much the same way when they are being produced, except that the few ones that are able to have a better/highercurrent? (or something) that they are able to be overclocked higher then some other chips on the same platter..
I'll look alittle bit more on this...the temp on the 2.0 is pretty good so far..

I'm sorry if I sounded competitive! I really just wanted to congratulate you for having an even better R50p than I, by upgrading not only to the QXGA screen (which my R50p's have) but also to a Dothan processor.

But I just love to break open these things and see what they look like from the inside.

Didn't you open it up to install the QXGA screen? BTW, how do you like this screen? Because of this awesome QXGA Flexview screen, I consider my R50p's far superior to any of the currently available Thinkpads.

PW..the QXGA is very very nice...I like it even better than the Sxga tablet..believe it or not...i don't know how to describe it but the qxga is very white and brite almost a pure white (not blue-ish at all) clean, clear, crisp white ,, the Boe Hydis on the tablet looks alittle yellow compare to IDE Qxga so I do feel its a much superior screen...the tablet is already a very nice screen in its 12 inch class .
But I do gravitate more toward the Qxga as a daily use and use the tablet when traveling...
I do wish when burning movies or decoding movies it can be faster... on the tablet/ultrabase ..movies can be down loaded into HD around 17-20 min...but on the R50p its like 45 min....and the Burner on the R50p is slow at 4x ..so naturally it will be slower...
I want to ask you: do you have a very slight light leak on the left side of your Qxga screen when the screen is black. ? This is only noticable when the room is completely dark while watching widecreen movies where the two bars on the top and bottom..or booting up right after you press the "on" button before window icon comes up...other than this i would have given this screen is a "10 1/2" rating (now 9 3/4)
its NOT noticable at all any other time.. Iam just being super picky and curious
I enjoy this screen immensely...I can't see any a real quality replacement for this screen-on any laptops (yet)..So i will hold on to it carefully for some time.
do you know if the new Blue ray Player coming out will fit this r50p? This will really enhance and compliment this almost HD quality screen... i saw a post here ..on Lenovo's bring out a Blueray driver and the spec looks like it can be done...

I think I've seen these leaks when my eyes are very dark-adapted. In addition, both of my screens have slightly darkened bottom corners, a common problem for older LCDs. They bothered me for a few days but not any more. At least they haven't gotten any worse.

Are you using the original 60GB 7200rpm HDD? I benchmarked this drive and the 100GB 7200rpm Seagate drive I bought for my T42, and the latter scored MUCH higher. So you may want to consider getting that.

I don't know nothing about Blue Ray drives, so I'll let others answer that question.

I had the chance today to swap out the 2.0 for a 2.1
using speedfan to monitor the temp
ran antivirus software and rip dvd on to HD ...i don't know if these are CPU intensive enough...but for a daily use tests.....
But I can deffinatly feel the difference in the temp..its hovering around 40 c -- 42 c ..I will let it run and see what happens and do some daily activites like burning cds, internet ect and see
But I don't know if this temp is ok...the fan is running almost all the time. it does feel warm for a thinkpad but NOT Sony hot..
iam not sure if the R50P uses a long fan like on some other models...will this be an issue?

Now, the 2.0 seems like a good balance.. iam just concern about the temp result to overheating...
