Strange Bios Update on A22M
Strange Bios Update on A22M
Everything was OK with my Thinkpad A22M and Windows 2000
I recently update all my drivers and my bios with update connector
After Bios update, Thinkpad doesn't boot, i've got a Blue screen with a Stop , in safe mode it doesn't boot either.
I try to reinstall win2000 Or XP and I can't because i've got a blue screen saying that my bios isn't acpi compatible.
I can install it disabling ACPI during installation but the machine looks really unstable.
I downgrade to my old bios version and i've got the same problem
How can I reset ACPI or anything else because IBM says of course that my Thinkpad Isn't under warranty
Thanks

i just aquired a thinkpad a22m, an reinstalling the win2000 i kept coming up with error 7, which i did a seach an it said somethin about acpi enabled machines gave this, i see that you disabled yours, how can i go about disabling mine, this is my first thinkpad and from all intents an purposes seems the OS has been cleaned off before i got it, which is fine i have a copy of win2k etc, just tryin to get this thing to work, so how you disable that acpi???
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
Hmmm.
What happens when you go into the BIOS? Are there any POST (power on self test) error codes available for you to check. Browse around in the BIOS and make sure you can see all your memory, hard disks, etc. Flash the BIOS to the latest level and try loading all the default settings from BIOS afterwards. Could also try removing the battery and CMOS battery to rule out that as causing ACPI problems. Then of course re-insert and try again. It's worth a shot.
What about strange beeps after you turn it on?
Hell, my 600E supports ACPI...so something is amiss. I'm assuming the A22M is a newer machine. To rule out windows funkyness, I would try booting Knoppix linux and see what happens with it when it loads modules for ACPI (which it will when you stick it in the CD-ROM drive and boot off it). Might give a helpful error message if there is indeed something wrong with the motherboard.

One more thing: Did your first flash attempt finish *correctly* meaning it wasn't interrupted or turned off in the middle of flashing? Not so good things can happen if this is interrupted.

Hiya and thanks for the quick response, well i spent last night from my post till about 1am workin with it, i downloaded PC Doctor that is for that model an loaded it up via the floppy and it took right off an i ran a complete scan of the entire system, everything checks out AOK, so on a hunch i tried (again) to install windows 2000 pro, the thing says on its keypad its designed for it,
anyways, after many many many tries to get it past one error or so, i think the floppys were old an they just wouldnt read at times, but finally after 3 hours it took all four setup diskettes an it started the windows install, etc etc etc.. well everything went fine, till the system rebooted itself, and blaaaaaaaaaah, boots fine, but black screen after the startup screen that has the F1 or F12 options, just blank screen, pretty as a picture, not!
i thank you for that link, will study on that option. i feel im close to gettin this thing solved..it formated the HD, [censored] thing was segmented several times an it is only the standard 20 gig. go figure, im running the pc doctor again as i type this, maybe itll do somethin, i dunno. since it was smooth install an it just did this after the reboot i imagine that windows DID install correct..dunno ive read alot of people doin reinstalles an such on these thinkpads an it doin the same thing...maybe have to buy another HD..or get bios updated..
thank you tho again for your information an the link. i really appreciate it.
back to developing a twitch.

UPDATE!
I have managed to get the the thinkpad goin, i had went to this site
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... YQLGR#test
scrolled down to where it said "Go to download page for PC Doctor " filled out the model # an all an it directed me to the download page, which i then downloaded the PC Doctor, installed it again, this time tho i had it to a quick erase of my harddrive, so when i went to install W2K and it got to the point of checking the disk, said it was new or been erased, i formated it NTFS, an noticed it was the complete HD this time, go figure, anyways. it worked this time got it rebooted, filled out the forms an boom, it works..for how long i dunno, but its just for games an such.
after almost 12 hours of non stop copyin diskettes an the like, its good to finally actually get some good returns.
thank you again for your link an your help! i did remove the battery earlier this mornin, but didnt seem to help so thats when i just went an reinstalled the PC Doctor an figured what the heck, nothin to lose LOL.
i hope if anyone looks for help with the same problem, that my luck and link will help them.
Thanks again,
LD
