z61m screen duel screen problem?

I have a z61m - 90% of the time i run with a second screen
at least twice a day sometimes more both screen's go almost like the static on a TV except in color - i have a picture i can post if anyone wants to see - I have to force a reboot -
Usually there is a warning in that the mouse cursor becomes a small vertical line rather then a mouse cursor - then i know there is nothing i can do and it usually crash's soon after the mouse changes

Unfortunately when I got around to get it repaired the 1 year guarantee had run out 6 days prior

It does not seem to happen when i use only the laptop LCD
It can happen with any software open
I have all the latest drivers
The one other thing that is strange is the lenovo software where you control the video - i think its called presentation manager does not display any text - just pictures - i have tried reinstalling it

any help diagnosing so i dont have to replace each part till they find the faulty one will be much appreciated

The video card is the most likely problem, since it happens to both screens. Maybe it is faulty but the fault only appears during stress, when it's driving two screens at once.
