802.11g mini-pci on A31p?

#1 Post by jsalb » Thu Nov 18, 2004 10:20 am

Can anyone suggest an 802.11g mini-pci card that definitely works on the A31p?

I'm currently using a Cisco 350 mini-pci and wish to upgrade to 802.11g. The Cisco card is on IBM's approved list, so I can't determine whether the latest BIOS locks out non-IBM wireless cards. Does anyone know for sure whether the lock out feature has been implemented in the A31p BIOS?

Hmm, do not know anything about an IBM lock out feature in the BIOS of the A31p but once I tried the 802.11g mini pci card from IBM PRO 2200 (produced from Intel) and it dosen't work in my A31p.
It wasn't possible to start the computer at all with this mini pci card installed. A BIOS message came up and say that the installed pci card will be not supported by this computer.
The same card works flawless in my little Fujitsu Lifebook P2120. Even this notebook has a combined modem/wifi card but here the loose of the modem function did not end into a total system refusal.

IBM computers are getting more and more strange...

The behavior you observed is due to the BIOS lockout feature.

Does anyone know of any 802.11g mini-pci cards that are definitely compatible with the a31p?

802.11 a/b/g success

If you track down the no-1802 utility to disable the BIOS lock it is possible to use non-approved 802.11 a/b/g cards.

I have just installed a Dell Wireless 1450 minipci card in my A31P - and have connected at 54Mbps to my access point.

I also tried the IBM a/b/g minipci card which did not work - it gave an error on boot about too many ethernet controllers.

Cheers

David
