R52 desktop problem (Windows-related?)
R52 desktop problem (Windows-related?)
I have an R52 (and have owned it for almost exactly two years). I update it regularly; both Windows updates and via SystemUpdate for the IBM software.
Yesterday I did a SystemUpdate and now I have a somewhat strange problem.
My Thinkpad is configured not to hibernate when I close the lid; it merely turns off the screen. Now, when I close the lid and re-open it, the program windows which were left open are in all kinds of different positions, and are even different sizes.
I cannot for the life of me think what would have caused this, except maybe new ATI drivers.
I realise this is a minor problem, but it's massively irritating! If anyone has the same problem or knows of a solution, I would greatly appreciate some advice.
Many thanks
Colin

What is the 4 character machine type of your thinkpad R52? You can find it on the back of your thinkpad or look it up in PC Doctor.
Based on that machine type install the BIOS from the following link:
Drivers and software - ThinkPad R52.
You may also need to update Embedded Controller Program, please read the installation notes for that.

Seems like your BIOS is already up-to-date.
Do you have Presentation Director installed? If so then look at the following thread:
LCD resolution changes when I close the screen.
Here is a utility that can help you also:
Desktop Restore.
