Questions before I do a full recovery on my R61

#1 Post by csloth » Mon Dec 24, 2007 5:10 am

Hi

I'd like to make a fresh install of Vista Business on my R61. (using Rescue & Recovery). So I've got a few questions.

1. I have split my harddrive in two volumes (C: and D: ). Will that drive-structure be kept intact when doing the recovery, or will it be changed to factory-default (one huge C-drive)?

2. What Lenovo software is needed for the computer to function properly? I only want software installed that is really necessary because right now I have like 85 processes running and it's slowing the computer - especially during startup.

Thanks, and happy holidays to all of you.

1. It will delete all your previously created drives.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

rye is right, the factory discs will completely wipe the drive, reinstall the OS and a recovery partition. The recovery will give you all the software you need to run the machine. to create a data partition get some partioning software or just use the vista partition to store your data.

True guys, but csloth never said he was running the discs. If he uses the Blue button or F11 at boot up it will not disturb the partition he created. If he runs the discs it will remove his partition.
If you need to save the drivers and apps that are specific to your Thinkpad save the SWTOOLS folder to a DVD.

Older versions of Rescue and Recovery deletes whatever comes in it's way, beginning with v4.x it will give you custom options to wipe out the 1. Primary partition only or 2. Format the entire drive.

Gor R&R 4.0, so I just wiped the primary partition.

Got one more question - tried to google it but couldn't find any answer.

Is it possible to disable the Windows Network Connections and then let Access Connections manage everything?

That is how it used to work on my stock T42. I bet his R61 has a newer version of R&R than it did.
