Lenovo Z61p Wireless connectivity

#1 Post by reanimate » Tue Dec 25, 2007 6:08 am

Hi All.

We've just been given a Z61p from work as our new laptop, (loaded with XP) and I'm experiencing a major problem with the wireless connectivity.

The laptop will discover and connect to a wireless network OK, then after about 1 minute I get a message saying that it is disconnected from the network. Then a minute or so later it reconnects again, then a bit later it disconnects ... cycling round like this.

I think I've loaded the latest drivers from the ibm support site, but it hasn't helped at all.

Help!

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Simon.

Look at the utilities posted in the following post by GomJabbar:

Wireless issue I've about had it. Can't connect to any wi.

If you're using Access Connections then uninstall it to see if that makes any improvement.

Configure your wireless according to your network requirements, I had exact same problem on my thinkpad Z60m, tried everything until I came to know my wireless was improperly configured.

Hi there.

Thanks for that, I've looked through all the links but they don't seem to be directed towards the same problem I'm having - I can actually connect to either my home or friends networks, all be it for a minute or so and surf the web etc, then the connection dies, then returns.

I did check that the winsock is not corrupted, and it's fine.

I ran a diagnostic check as per the post and it gave an error of no reply from the dns server ... but then it would wouldn't it as there was is connectivity!

There's not much I can configure wrong with the network - choose the network you want to connect to, enter the wep key ...

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Simon.

Disable everthing in the general tab of your NIC Properties except TCP/IP, press OK and then restart your machine.

Just try this and let me know how it goes.

erm ... no change.

I disabled all bar tcp-ip then had to re enable the WLAN entry as nothing worked.

Afterwoods - same old continual cycling.

Thanks very much for your help to date.

Do what my MIS group does:
RESTORE OS and workstation apps.

I guarantee this will solve your connection woes unless you have a hardware issue.

Come to think of it, maybe you should run PC Doctor 5 in case you do have a hardware issue.

My 2 cents.

try this one, go to Control Panel>System>Hardware Tab>Device Manager>network adapters> (then go to your wireless cards name)

go to the properties tab and look for something that says "Roaming Agreesiveness" if it is turned up, the card may continually search for better connections, and give u the problems you are having.

Thanks for that, but it's a work laptop built using a standard image and they may well not be too impressed if I do that!

I don't have a copy of PC Doctor 5 either :(

FYI the wireless router and the laptop are only about a metre apart and I have 100% signal.

Tried it and ... still disconnected in under a minute.
And connects again ... and ... oh well!

I think it's had it - I'll let work sort it out on Wednesday and let you know how it was fixed.
