A30P - blank screen, external VGA ok

#1 Post by ywis » Thu Dec 27, 2007 9:48 pm

hi

I have an A30P with no video. I would be extremely grateful for any help with an exact diagnosis. Here are the details:
  • - external VGA video ok
    - external DVI using port replicator ok
    - Disk Doctor diagnostics - pass
    - lid switch does not seem to be stuck
    - no damage to the logic board from a long screw
    - screen assembly works on another board so I reason the cable, backlight and inverter are ok
    - no obvious change due to pressure on the graphics chip
    - I have tried looking at the screen with a light and can't tell whether the screen is in fact showing anything or if the problem is just the backlight being off.
I have another board which has a problem with the BGA connections on the graphics chip; this seems different however.

thanks
Larry

I've had the exact same issue that you're describing while these were still fairly new. IBM replaced the motherboard since the machine was still under warranty.
