Z61M problems

#1 Post by lottathought » Tue Jan 01, 2008 11:25 am

Hi all..
I have a problem and really need some help here.
I have had the Z61M for about a year.

I seem to remember once or twice in the year having a fan error message.
Well HAPPY NEW YEAR....today I get that message at start up every time.
I did do research here and I can bypass the problem when I hit the ESC button.

I do not want to overheat the laptop though.

How hard is it to replace the fan on this laptop?

And does this sound like it just needs the fan replaced?

With the help of Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) and couple of tools, I would say very easy:

Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61p.

According to HMM the cause of fan error can be any of the followings:

1. Fan.
2. Thermal grease.
3. System board.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
