#1 Post by ekdya » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:42 pm

Hi
I have A31 with windows 2000 and a CD player only, I need to get a superdrive so that I can play/burn/re_write CDs and DVDs, can someone give me some advise please.

thanks

Here's my take on it:

- Get a genuine IBM branded Ultrabay 2000 Multi-burner. Something like a 22P7015 or 92P6014 (see this list)
- Get a burner for some other laptop (in the same 12.7mm height) and adapt it for the Ultrabay 2000

The first option will probably cost the most but has the best chance of success. The second option can be cheaper but is fraught with some stumbling blocks (front bezel needs modification, need Ultrabay 2000 rails for the burner, possibility of getting a drive which does not have the right type of connector). As I like the challenge (and am cheap :) ), I've put UJ-820 and UJ-840 drives into T23s before and have been burning DVDs with both.
