external battery options for z60m

#1 Post by drake3 » Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:44 pm

Hi All,

I just started back to school in a graduate program. I am thinking the note taking is going to be done with OneNote and my Z60m. The evening class is 3.75 hours long and even my 9 cell battery won't last that long with wi-fi running. It did not help that I installed a 7200rpm hard disk. I am a little far from the nearest outlet in class.

I see Electrovaya has external Li-Po battery packs - pretty expensive, but they do list compatibility with the Z60 series. APC has some less expensive units, but nothing listed for the thinkpad z60 series under the compatibility charts.

Does anyone have experience with either? Can the APC run my Z60m?

Thanks!

Why not just get another 7-cell battery off eBay for around $80?

Easy solution...

Yeah, thought about the extra battery option, but I think a solution where I did not have to hibernate the unit would be best. (I would have to hibernate to switch batteries - right?) I also thought about having to charge both batteries and I would have to basically be doing double swaps. Swapping when I need to charge the used unit and swapping when I need to switch to a fresh unit.

That is an option, but would like to try the external battery options first. Thanks for the suggestion.
