Why Does Z60t not have a AHCI / Compatibility mode in BIOS?

#1 Post by umern » Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:57 am

my Z60T (model 2511-FFG) has been acting really strange lately and I really fancy putting a non IBM install of XP on it rather than a Rescure Recovery.
The only thing that concerns me is that the drive is a SATA drive so worried about getting the drivers on during the XP install.
The T60 forum talks about a SATA compatibility mode setting in the BIOS but I cant see any on the Z60T.

Does it not need one - is it always operating in Compat mode - cos the device manager and BIOS shows ATA / IDE drives.

Please confirm...

Thanks!

This is rather strange to me as well, having owned a Z series machine (in 2005), I never cared to notice it maybe simply because I don't use clean installs.

The BIOS simulator confirms your find though:

BIOS simulator - ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t.

Seems like it was never coded in the BIOS.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
